2019 CODING BOOT CAMP

The Visiola Foundation’s Coding Boot Camp is a 5-week nonresidential program tailored to exposing participants to Computer Science, Data Structures, Algorithms, Programming, and Graphic Design. The Coding Boot Camp was held on July 8 – August 9, 2019.

The camp exposed participants to the process and workflow involved in software development; from prototyping to core programming.
During the camp, participants were taught full-stack web development using latest web technologies (JavaScript, Html5 and CSS). They used React.JS and Materialize at the front end and utilized NodeJS at the backend. Students also used MySQL as their database engine where they learned various database operations like creating, reading, updating, and deleting from a database. Participants were further introduced to modules and classes in python programming such as classes, function, loops, conditional statements, variables and data types, and text concatenation among others. Finally, students learnt to design mock-up (site map) of websites and web applications using Adobe Illustrator and also create fliers, postcards, business cards and other graphic designs using Photoshop.

Students were also mentored by Mrs. Lade Araba (Co-Founder and President, The Visiola Foundation), Ubi Simon (Curator, AI6 Abuja), Farida Kabir (Founder, Otrac and 2017 Coding Boot Camp Graduate), Tolu Olayinka (CEO, Cinoteck), Elizabeth Kolade (Cyber security expert, CSEAN), Oluwatoyin Yetunde Sanni (former Software Developer at Andela Nigeria and currently a student at Sapienza University of Rome) and Olaide Agboola (Software Developer, Andela) during the camp.

At the end of the boot camp, participants were grouped into 4 teams and developed software solutions for businesses in agriculture, health, finance and e-commerce sectors.
