Girls learn to code at The Visiola Foundation 2017 Enugu Coding Workshop

The Coding Workshop in Enugu was held from October 19 – 25, 2017 at Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu, and coincided with Africa Code Week 2017. The camp was designed to provide girls in the south Eastern parts of Nigeria technology skills which are necessary in the 21st Century. The camp was a 6-day program aimed at introducing young women to the field of computer programming and educate them on how to leverage technology to develop technology solutions to problems in the society.

The Coding Workshop taught 46 girls from underprivileged backgrounds fundamentals of programming in Python, Mobile App Development using MIT App Inventor and Web Design using HTML and CSS. Students were also mentored by Mrs. Lade Araba (Co-Founder and President, The Visiola Foundation), Dr. Ikechukwu Ani (Director, Academic Planning, Godfrey Okoye University) and Ms. Olaide Agboola (Software Developer, Andela) during the camp.
